Welcome to The Therapy Room in Yeppoon! I'm Tayla Thrupp, an experienced occupational therapist with a passion for helping people achieve their goals. I also provide manual lymphatic drainage, compression bandaging, cognitive screening and assessments as well as rehabilitation services.


I'm an associate member of the Australian Hand Therapy Association and have completed additional studies in hand therapy and lymphoedema management, so you can rest assured that I'm highly qualified to help you with your specific needs.

Hand & Upper Limb Rehabilitation

I offer professional hand and upper limb therapy and rehabilitation services tailored to meet the individual needs of my clients. With the help of highly skilled therapists, I utilise evidence-based therapeutic techniques and modalities to assist in restoring functionality and maximising the quality of life for individuals with hand and upper limb injuries or conditions.


My treatments may include exercises, manual therapy, splinting/bracing, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, massage, joint mobilisation and other specialised interventions. Additionally, I provide education on home exercise programs and self-management strategies to empower individuals to take an active role in their rehabilitation journey.

Lymphoedema Management

Living with lymphoedema can be difficult and uncomfortable, but it doesn't have to be. At The Therapy Room, I provide professional, individualised lymphoedema management services tailored to meet the needs of my clients.


I am experienced in pre and post-surgical measurements and education as well as compression bandaging techniques and manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) therapy. I work closely with my clients to develop a personalised treatment plan that best suits their condition and lifestyle, incorporating exercises for strengthening muscles and enhancing lymph flow as well as prescribing appropriate compression garments for optimal management of the condition.


The goal is to reduce swelling and discomfort associated with lymphoedema, improve range of motion and mobility, prevent any complications or potential infections and promote physical and emotional well-being.

With the help of standardised protocols and tools, I evaluate an individual's cognitive abilities to identify potential impairments or issues. Through evidence-based approaches and techniques, I help clients recover from neurological injuries or conditions, improve their neurological function and regain independence.


I also accept referrals for services not listed upon request, tailoring my therapeutic plans to an individual's goals and needs. This ensures that all of their therapeutic needs are met with the highest level of care available.

Hi there! I'm Tayla Thrupp, the founder of The Therapy Room. As an accredited Occupational Therapist and Associate member of the Australian Hand Therapy Association, I'm proud to offer a wide range of services in Yeppoon. In my ongoing education through the Australian Hand Therapy Association, I'm currently working towards becoming a Certified Hand Therapist. Additionally, I have completed a certificate in Lymphoedema management of the upper limb.


At The Therapy Room, I welcome referrals from G.P.s, specialists, worker’s compensation, DVA, insurance companies as well as self-referrals. My goal is to provide the best possible care and guidance for my clients to help them reach their individual goals. FAQs

  • Do I need a referral?

    No, but most of my clients have been seen by a Doctor first.

  • What should I bring to my first appointment?

    X-rays, imaging reports, notes and referral letters are all helpful. Wear loose upper-body clothing or something suitable for exposing the arm. If the condition is painful, you can take pain medication 15 minutes before your appointment.

  • How long will the appointment take?

    Minimum consultation time is 30 minutes; check when booking. Treatment duration depends on your condition and improvements made.

  • Does my private health fund cover the consultation?

    Yes, in nearly all cases. A variable gap will depend on your funds and the services you need. I use Medipass to process claims and payments; bring your fund card.  You can always check with your health fund before your consultation.

  • What about Medicare?

    Medicare does not pay for therapy unless your GP refers you to a “Care Plan.” this will only apply to some individuals; please discuss this with your GP first. There will be a gap fee with a care plan.

  • What types of conditions do you treat?

    I treat many conditions, including but not limited to musculoskeletal injuries, neurological disorders, chronic pain, developmental delays, and mental health issues.

  • What techniques or methods do you use during therapy sessions?

    I utilise various techniques and methods based on individual needs, including exercises, manual therapy, functional training, adaptive equipment, and cognitive behavioural therapy.

  • Can you provide home exercise programs for me to continue my therapy at home?

    I can create personalised home exercise programs tailored to your needs and goals to help you maintain progress between therapy sessions.

  • How long does it usually take to see improvement or results?

    The timeline for improvement varies depending on the condition, severity and individual factors. Some clients may experience improvement after just a few sessions, while others may require long-term therapy for sustained results. Your therapist will discuss this with you during your consultation.

  • Do you offer teletherapy or virtual sessions?

    Yes, I offer teletherapy or virtual sessions for clients who cannot attend in-person appointments or prefer the convenience of remote therapy. Please discuss this option with me during your consultation.

  • What measures do you have in place to ensure client safety during therapy?

    I prioritise client safety and follow strict hygiene and sanitation protocols. I also adhere to government guidelines and recommendations to minimise any risks of COVID-19 transmission. Additionally, I use personal protective equipment when necessary and maintain a clean and safe therapy environment.

  • Does workers' compensation insurance cover occupational therapy?

    Occupational therapy is often covered by workers' compensation insurance for work-related injuries or conditions. Please check with your employer or insurance provider for specific coverage details.

  • How often will I need to attend therapy sessions?

    The frequency of therapy sessions depends on your condition, goals and progress. Initially, sessions may be scheduled weekly or biweekly, and as you make progress, the frequency may be reduced to monthly or as needed.

  • Do you accept insurance other than private health funds?

    Yes, in addition to private health funds, I also accept other insurance plans such as NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme), TAC (Transport Accident Commission), and DVA (Department of Veterans' Affairs). Please provide your insurance details during the consultation, and we can assist you in determining coverage.
